BEIJING, Dec 30 (APP): The recent intelligence-led counterterrorism operation in Khar area of Bajaur, which neutralized five Khawarij militants linked to India-backed Fitna ul Hindustan, stands as a powerful testament to Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to eradicate terrorism.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s commendation of the security forces underscores that this achievement is not merely a tactical success, but a reaffirmation of the nation’s collective commitment to peace under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.
These views were expressed by Prof. Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute, a non-governmental Chinese think-tank on diplomacy and international studies based in Beijing.
He said that this success, however, came at a profound cost. Major Adeel Zaman embraced martyrdom while leading his troops with exceptional courage and resolve. His sacrifice embodies the highest ideals of Pakistan’s armed forces, whose members continuously place themselves in harm’s way to protect civilians from extremist violence. As PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized, unwavering national solidarity with the armed forces remains the cornerstone of this campaign—uniting the nation beyond all divisions in defense of its homeland.
Launched in June 2024, Operation Azm-e-Istehkam has demonstrated its effectiveness through a comprehensive strategy that integrates precision military operations with targeted socio-economic initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of extremism. The elimination of these foreign-sponsored terrorists—responsible for attacks on both civilians and security personnel—highlights the operation’s strategic depth and operational precision. Ongoing sanitization efforts continue to reinforce regional stability, delivering a clear and resolute message: Pakistan will not tolerate state-sponsored terrorism or threats to its sovereignty, Prof Cheng said.
In honoring Major Adeel Zaman and saluting the bravery of the security forces, Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism. Though challenges remain, national unity and steadfast dedication to Operation Azm-e-Istehkam are steadily transforming the vision of a terror-free Pakistan into a tangible reality, he added.
