Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand Discusses Security with Mohsin Naqvi

ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand visited Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior on Monday and held detailed talks with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on enhancing bilateral cooperation in security, trade, and regional affairs.

Expanding Pakistan-Canada Bilateral Security Cooperation

According to an official statement, the meeting reviewed the current state of Pakistan-Canada relations, focusing on expanding bilateral engagement and addressing the latest regional developments. The high-level delegation included Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Canadian High Commissioner, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), additional secretaries of the Ministry of Interior, and other senior officials.

Focus on Illegal Migration and Cybercrime

The two sides held extensive discussions regarding joint measures to combat illegal migration, human trafficking, and cybercrime. Furthermore, they explored the launch of specialized training and exchange programs for officials of law enforcement agencies. Both ministers reached a consensus to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the earliest opportunity to further institutionalize and strengthen bilateral security cooperation, a move that echoes broader efforts by the government to align with international partners as seen in broader trade and investment initiatives.

Commitment to Strengthening Diplomatic Ties

Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that Pakistan remained keen to expand its relations with Canada across all sectors. He noted that the Pakistani community in Canada is making a significant and positive contribution to the development of both nations while serving as a vital cultural and economic bridge. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry added that a formal agreement to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest would provide fresh momentum to the diplomatic ties. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand described her country’s relationship with Pakistan as highly important and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to expanding these ties through a comprehensive framework designed to organize and deepen collaboration between the two countries.
