BEIJING (special crosspondent) – Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has formally invited Chinese investors to expand their participation in Pakistan’s ports, logistics, and maritime sectors. During his address in Beijing, the minister outlined the government’s ongoing comprehensive reforms aimed at transforming the nation into a primary regional transit trade, logistics, and industrial hub.

Strategic Partnership and Regional Connectivity

Addressing the Regional Transit Trade Hub Initiative, Minister Chaudhry noted that the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China has entered a transformative new phase. This evolution focuses on enhanced connectivity, streamlined trade facilitation, logistics efficiency, industrial development, and sustainable economic growth. The minister’s appeal for investment aligns with ongoing efforts by the Pakistani leadership to expand trade and investment portfolios globally.

Modernizing Maritime Institutions

The minister underscored that global trade is currently undergoing a rapid evolution, necessitated by digitalization, smart logistics, and the development of resilient, green supply chains. He emphasized that Pakistan’s unique geographic positioning serves as a natural gateway for international trade. Consequently, key national maritime institutions—including the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Port Qasim Authority (PQA), Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), and the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC)—are undergoing modernization to ensure Pakistan emerges as a competitive, modern maritime and industrial hub.

Investment Opportunities in CPEC

Chaudhry highlighted Gwadar Port, the flagship project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as a focal point for foreign investment. Opportunities identified include port operations, warehousing, free zone development, and broader maritime industrialization. The minister assured potential Chinese stakeholders that the Government of Pakistan remains dedicated to providing a transparent and business-oriented regulatory environment.

Future Cooperation and Economic Integration

In his closing remarks, the minister thanked Jiang Tong Land International Holdings for facilitating a platform that brings together key policymakers and business leaders. Reaffirming the enduring friendship between the two nations, Chaudhry stated that both countries would continue to deepen cooperation to foster a more integrated and prosperous regional future. This visit follows other high-level diplomatic efforts, such as when the Pakistan and Canada Strengthen Bilateral Trade and Strategic Cooperation Ties, showcasing Pakistan’s proactive approach to diversifying its international economic alliances.
