Pakistan Welcomes Progress on Gaza Peace Plan, Calls for Concrete Steps Towards Palestinian Statehood: PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the progress made on disarmament under the Gaza Peace Plan, expressing hope that concrete measures will now be taken to implement all commitments under the initiative and advance the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

In a statement posted on X, the Prime Minister said Pakistan welcomes the progress achieved in implementing the disarmament process under the Board of Peace’s Gaza Peace Plan.

He appreciated the mediation efforts of the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye, saying their diplomatic engagement had played a key role in achieving the breakthrough. The Prime Minister also described the development as a significant achievement for the Board of Peace under the leadership of President Donald Trump.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed hope that the latest progress would lead to the full implementation of all commitments outlined in the Gaza Peace Plan and help create conditions for lasting peace in the region.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and said the country hopes these efforts will pave the way for the establishment of an independent, sovereign and geographically contiguous State of Palestine through a credible, time-bound political process in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. He added that the future Palestinian state should be based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.
