Iran Won’t Reopen Strait of Hormuz Until All Demands Are Met: Revolutionary Guards

TEHRAN, August 9: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened until the United States meets all of Tehran’s conditions.

According to Agence France-Presse, the Revolutionary Guards said that any decision to reopen the strategic waterway would depend on the fulfilment of Iran’s demands, including compensation for damages caused by the war.

Iranian officials have previously called on the United States to end military operations, lift sanctions against Iran and meet other demands put forward by Tehran.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital international waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. A significant share of global energy supplies passes through the strait, making any prolonged disruption a major concern for international oil and gas markets and maritime trade.

According to the Iranian position, the Strait of Hormuz will only be reopened after the United States fulfils all of Tehran’s conditions.
