Trump Appoints Will Scharf as New White House Counsel

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf as the new White House counsel. Scharf will assume his new responsibilities on September 1.

Scharf currently serves as staff secretary, overseeing White House administrative affairs and the handling of key documents and materials sent to the president. He also chairs the National Capital Planning Commission.

According to the Trump administration, Scharf previously served on Trump’s legal team and represented the president in several major legal matters, including cases involving presidential immunity. He also played a role in Trump’s legal defence in the election-interference case against him.

Scharf will replace David Warrington as White House counsel. Warrington is expected to leave the administration and move to the private sector. He has been among Trump’s close legal advisers and served as his personal attorney during the 2024 presidential campaign.

The White House counsel advises the president on major legal matters, including presidential powers, litigation, legislation and issues related to presidential pardons.

Trump praised Scharf’s appointment, describing him as a talented and strong legal expert. His appointment comes as the Trump administration faces several legal challenges and prepares for the midterm elections scheduled for November.
