Pakistan to continue constructive role in regional defence, security with Turkiye, Saudi Arabia: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has appreciated US President Donald Trump’s support for the Makkah Mukarramah Joint Defence Agreement and said Pakistan would continue to play a constructive role, alongside Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, in ensuring the defence and security of the region.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the prime minister, in a post on social media platform X on Monday, thanked President Trump for his support and encouragement regarding the signing of the Makkah Mukarramah Joint Defence Agreement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan, together with brotherly Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Turkiye, would continue to play a constructive role in ensuring the defence and security of the entire region.

He also once again paid tribute to President Trump’s “bold and decisive leadership,” saying it had helped avert a nuclear catastrophe in South Asia and save millions of human lives.

The prime minister stressed that sustainable peace was the most important prerequisite for a bright and prosperous future for the peoples of the region.

Earlier, President Trump, in a post on his social media platform, had welcomed the signing of the Makkah Mukarramah Joint Defence Agreement by Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan.

Trump described the agreement as a major and bold first step, saying it demonstrated how countries in the Middle East were moving closer to one another and enhancing their ability to defend themselves.

He also congratulated the leadership of Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on the agreement.
