NEW YORK: The United Nations has described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as a major success in efforts to end the Iran war, while stressing the need for renewed negotiations between the parties.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, said the UN remained in contact with Pakistani officials regarding diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.

According to a report by Dawn, Dujarric referred to the Islamabad MoU reached in June between the United States and Iran and described the agreement as a “major success.” He also stressed the importance of restarting talks between Washington and Tehran to help bring the conflict to an end.

Pakistan played a key diplomatic and facilitation role in efforts to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran and support a negotiated settlement.

The UN has continued to call for diplomatic engagement and dialogue, amid concerns that further escalation could deepen instability across the Middle East.

Guterres has also highlighted the role of countries, including Pakistan and Türkiye, in facilitating diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.
