ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, on Sunday evening to discuss recent diplomatic breakthroughs and regional security matters.

During the call, Senator Dar extended his congratulations to the leadership, government, and people of Iran on the signing of the historic “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” with the United States. This development has been widely seen as a significant diplomatic triumph for Pakistan, which played a crucial role in facilitating the agreement. The Deputy Prime Minister also conveyed his best wishes for the upcoming phase of negotiations, expressing optimism that the process would proceed smoothly and achieve positive results.

Foreign Minister Araghchi expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s constructive and sustained mediation efforts, which were pivotal in reaching the accord. The successful negotiation has been a focal point of recent high-level discussions, including a call between the Pakistani Prime Minister and the Iranian President.

Regional Developments and Bilateral Cooperation

The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional developments. They highlighted the ceasefire violations conducted by Israel in Lebanon, expressing serious concern over the escalating situation and its implications for regional stability.

In another demonstration of bilateral cooperation, Foreign Minister Araghchi thanked Senator Dar for Pakistan’s assistance in the repatriation of thirty Iranian nationals. This group includes eight fishermen who were rescued at sea by the United Kingdom and 22 crew members recently interdicted by the United States. Pakistan is currently coordinating the transit arrangements for their safe return to Iran.

Both ministers underscored the importance of continued engagement to address shared challenges and enhance cooperation. They concluded the call by agreeing to remain in close contact to further strengthen bilateral ties and coordinate on regional issues, reinforcing the diplomatic success that has been spotlighted by the viral signature page of the US-Iran accord.
