RAWALPINDI (special crosspondent) – The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) recently hosted the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Chandra W. Sukotjo, to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral trade and investment. The diplomatic visit featured a high-level delegation, including Mrs. Ingan Malen, Head of Economic Affairs; Mrs. Qurrat Ul Ain, Staff of the Economic Section; Mr. Muhammad Khairul Ajyal of the Socio-Culture Section; and Mr. Dicky Rachmat Pauji, Personal Secretary to the Ambassador.

Expanding Bilateral Economic Frontiers

RCCI President Usman Shaukat, accompanied by Vice President Fahad Barlas and members of the chamber’s executive committee, formally welcomed the delegation. In his opening address, President Shaukat emphasized that while the diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Indonesia are historically deep, there remains significant untapped potential for economic expansion. He advocated for a shift toward stronger business-to-business (B2B) linkages, increased export volumes, and the regular exchange of trade delegations to bolster bilateral commerce. This push for broader economic connectivity aligns with ongoing efforts to diversify Pakistan’s regional trade, similar to recent regional cooperation initiatives aimed at streamlining trade processes.

Key Sectors for Strategic Collaboration

Ambassador Chandra W. Sukotjo reaffirmed Jakarta’s commitment to deepening commercial engagement, specifically highlighting sectors such as tourism, the halal food industry, renewable energy, healthcare, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The Ambassador noted that Indonesia is actively seeking to translate longstanding diplomatic goodwill into tangible investment partnerships. Discussions also touched upon the necessity for digital technology integration to modernize trade frameworks, echoing the broader national focus on enhancing digital customs and industrial efficiency.

Trade Expo and Visa Facilitation

Addressing the local business community, Ambassador Sukotjo announced that Indonesia has simplified its visa application process for Pakistani business travelers. He further indicated that a reduction in visa fees is currently under evaluation, a move designed to lower barriers to commercial travel. The Ambassador extended a formal invitation to Pakistani manufacturers and exporters to attend the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia, scheduled for October 14–18, 2026. This exhibition is being positioned as a premier gateway for Pakistani entities to access Southeast Asian markets. The event served as a forum for stakeholders to discuss private-sector engagement, with a shared vision of creating sustainable growth that mirrors the development goals seen in other strategic growth sectors discussed by international observers.
