President Zardari Congratulates Indonesian Leadership and People on Independence Day

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17: President Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, the government and people of Indonesia on their Independence Day.

According to the Media Wing of the President’s Office, the president, in his congratulatory letter, said the historic occasion recalled the spirit, perseverance and determination of the Indonesian people, as well as the leadership of the country’s founding leaders in the struggle for independence.

President Zardari said Pakistan and Indonesia enjoyed close and friendly relations based on shared history, mutual trust, common faith and cooperation at bilateral, regional and international levels.

He said the two countries had continued to expand cooperation in various areas, including trade, investment, defence, health, education and people-to-people contacts.

The president expressed confidence that President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Pakistan last year had given a new dimension to bilateral relations and would help further deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

President Zardari also conveyed his best wishes for peace, progress and prosperity for the people of Indonesia.
