Obama Was an Incompetent President, Trump Says His Policies Gave Iran Billions of Dollars and Paved the Way for It to Acquire Nuclear Weapons, Trump Posts on Social Media

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has described former president Barack Obama as an incompetent leader, accusing his administration of providing Iran with billions of dollars and paving the way for the country to acquire nuclear weapons.

Trump made the remarks in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on October 25, strongly criticising Obama’s policies toward Iran.

The statement came after Obama criticised the Trump administration’s policies, particularly its war with Iran, during campaign appearances in Ohio and Michigan on October 24.

Obama has defended the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The deal was designed to restrict Iran’s nuclear programme and subject it to international monitoring in exchange for sanctions relief.

Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement in 2018 during his first term in office and reimposed sanctions on Iran.

Trump’s latest accusations reflect his longstanding opposition to Obama’s Iran policy. However, the claim that the agreement paved the way for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons remains Trump’s assertion, while the stated objective of the 2015 deal was to limit Iran’s nuclear activities and prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.
