ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – The Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS), Islamabad, hosted a distinguished delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka, on 3 August 2026. This high-level visit focused on analyzing the evolving significance of the aerial domain in both contemporary and future conflicts, while emphasizing the imperative of strengthening strategic cooperation between Pakistan and the island nation.

As an independent think tank, CASS remains steadfast in its commitment to engaging with both national and international academia, policymakers, and practitioners operating within the broader sphere of national security. Such engagements are part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to align with regional partners, much like Pakistan and Iran exploring new avenues for trade and investment cooperation to ensure mutual stability.

Tactical Insights and Technological Innovation

During the proceedings, Director Air Vice Marshal Nasser ul Haque Wyne (Retd) provided the delegation with a comprehensive briefing on the four-day Pakistan-India conflict of May 2025. He offered detailed insights into how the Pakistan Air Force successfully established air superiority through the precise integration of multi-domain operations. This analysis underscored the shifting character of modern warfare, where technological innovation acts as a decisive factor in achieving operational success.

Following this, Research Assistant Shaheer Ahmed delivered an in-depth presentation outlining CASS research methodologies, current findings, and projected trajectories for aerospace development. This session highlighted the necessity for collaborative research, an area often discussed alongside initiatives such as Pakistan and Denmark signing an MoU to launch strategic sector cooperation to foster regional progress.

Building Resilience and Future Cooperation

In his concluding remarks, President CASS, Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd), emphasized the critical importance of indigenous technological development as a pillar for strengthening national defence capabilities. He drew attention to Pakistan’s proactive efforts through the National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP), which functions as a central hub for fostering innovation and achieving self-reliance in strategic technologies.

Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd) further identified that Pakistan and Sri Lanka share several common security challenges. He proposed military training, joint research and development, and knowledge exchange as primary avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation. The President also lauded Sri Lanka’s notable literacy rate and expressed deep admiration for the resilience shown by the Sri Lankan people in overcoming the protracted challenge of terrorism. He expressed strong confidence that deeper bilateral collaboration would significantly contribute to regional stability, mutual learning, and the reinforcement of long-standing defence ties.
