NEW YORK, September 25, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to review progress under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (MJDA).

The meeting, held on September 24 under the framework of the agreement, focused on progress towards establishing the General Secretariat, committees and working groups envisaged under the MJDA, as well as preparations for the commencement of their work.

The three foreign ministers strongly condemned what they described as heinous attacks targeting the Holy City of Makkah as well as civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.

They commended the vigilance of the Saudi Armed Forces and their ability to safeguard the Kingdom’s security, while reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s right to take measures it considers appropriate for its defence in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The ministers also discussed plans to convene an urgent meeting of the Chiefs of Staff of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to explore ways of assisting Saudi Arabia under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

The agreement stipulates that an attack against any one of its parties shall be considered an attack against all parties.

The foreign ministers also reviewed the prevailing regional situation and stressed the importance of adherence to international law, good-neighbourly relations, mutual respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.

They also underscored the importance of ensuring the security and freedom of navigation in the region.

The ministers reiterated their determination to work together for sustainable peace and stability in the region, support de-escalation efforts and encourage the peaceful resolution of ongoing crises.

The meeting comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows the activation of closer defence and security coordination among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
