ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Pakistan and Iran have agreed to significantly expand their cooperation across key security domains including counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and immigration. This agreement follows detailed discussions between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni, focusing on bilateral relations and the evolving regional landscape in the wake of a recent peace accord. Both ministers reviewed the current state of Pakistan-Iran ties and deliberated on the latest regional developments subsequent to the peace agreement. They jointly expressed satisfaction with the apparent de-escalation of regional tensions, conveying optimism that the accord will yield substantial positive outcomes for global peace and stability. Minister Momeni conveyed his gratitude to Pakistan for the warm reception accorded to the Iranian president and his accompanying delegation during their recent state visit. Mohsin Naqvi extended congratulations to the Iranian interior minister regarding the joint declaration signed in Bürgenstock, Switzerland. He underscored that the successful conclusion of this agreement was largely attributable to the earnest endeavours of the Iranian government and its leadership. “Pakistan has consistently championed peace and stability on a global scale,” Naqvi stated, reaffirming Islamabad’s ongoing commitment to fostering enduring peace within the Middle East. The two nations committed to bolstering institutional collaboration in several critical areas, encompassing enhanced security coordination, joint counterterrorism initiatives, cybersecurity strategies, and improved immigration management. The dialogue underscored a mutual aspiration to leverage the improving regional conditions for the development of more robust practical cooperation between the two neighbouring nations. Minister Momeni also acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s constructive contribution to the Iran-US negotiations and commended the support extended by the Pakistani populace. He indicated his intention to undertake a comprehensive visit to Pakistan in the near future, with the specific objective of advancing cooperation between the respective interior ministries of both countries. Notable attendees at the meeting from the Pakistani side included Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Interior Secretary, Additional Interior Secretary, Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency, Commandant of the National Police Academy, and Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
