ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui met with US Representatives Michael James Baumgartner and Ryan Keith Zinke to discuss strengthening bilateral educational cooperation and people-to-people ties. The high-level delegation, which also featured contributions from Minister of State Ms. Wajiha Qamar and NAVTTC Chairman Qamar-ul-Islam Raja, focused on the evolving landscape of academic and technical collaboration.

Focus on Cybersecurity and Technology

The discussions centered on establishing specialized cybersecurity courses and certification programs to combat digital security threats. Both parties expressed strong interest in fostering partnerships between Pakistani and American universities to drive faculty collaboration, research, and curriculum development. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to maintain stability as seen in discussions where Pakistan rejects provocative remarks from regional counterparts, choosing instead to focus on bilateral development.

Deepening Academic Exchanges

Minister Siddiqui praised the continued success of the Fulbright Program and other US-funded exchange initiatives managed by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP). He noted that over 44,000 Pakistanis have benefited from these programs. The Ministry emphasized that such academic engagement remains a cornerstone of the US-Pakistan relationship, paralleling the importance of other diplomatic dialogues, such as how Saudi defence officials coordinate security efforts with international partners.

Future Cooperation in Science and Innovation

The two sides explored the creation of joint research centers and dual-degree programs, specifically targeting public health, climate resilience, and food security. The Federal Minister highlighted Pakistan’s readiness to act as a reliable partner in the information technology and innovation sectors. By facilitating collaboration between technology companies and universities, both nations hope to capitalize on STEM talent. The delegation reaffirmed that sustained high-level engagement—akin to global security debates involving US influence—will remain a vital pillar of foreign policy for Pakistan as it moves toward a positive diplomatic trajectory.
