RAWALPINDI (special crosspondent) – The Ambassador of Spain to Pakistan, H.E. Carlos Aragón Gil de la Serna, visited the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI), where he held a high-level meeting with RCCI President Usman Shaukat to discuss critical opportunities for strengthening bilateral trade, foreign investment, and economic cooperation, alongside fostering deeper cultural relations between Pakistan and Spain. Expanding Economic and Agricultural Cooperation

The meeting was attended by Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Vice President Fahad Barlas, former presidents, Executive Committee members, and a significant number of RCCI members. During the discussions, President Usman Shaukat highlighted the vast untapped potential for expanding Pakistan–Spain trade. He emphasized the necessity of promoting stronger business-to-business linkages, enhancing market access, and facilitating greater cooperation in technology transfer and innovation.

Shaukat noted that Spain offers promising avenues for Pakistani exporters, particularly in the textile and agro-based product sectors. Conversely, he underscored that Pakistan stands to benefit significantly from Spanish expertise in modern agriculture, precision farming, advanced irrigation systems, agricultural mechanization, greenhouse technology, and water management. Structured Platforms for Growth

The meeting assumed added significance in view of recent bilateral consultations regarding the establishment of a Joint Working Group on Agriculture. This initiative is expected to provide a structured platform for expanding technical and commercial cooperation in the agricultural sector. Currently, Pakistan has identified rice, ethanol, potatoes, and maize as products with substantial potential for increasing exports to the Spanish market, while textiles remain a cornerstone of Pakistan’s leading export commodities to Spain.

Cultural Diplomacy and Sports Manufacturing

Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, attended the proceedings as the Chief Guest. Together with RCCI President Usman Shaukat, he presented the Spanish Ambassador with a football manufactured in Pakistan for the FIFA World Cup. The gesture was intended to highlight Pakistan’s world-class sports goods manufacturing capabilities and symbolized the deepening friendship between the two nations.

The Ambassador also participated in the RCCI’s Independence Day celebrations and a ceremonial cake-cutting, reflecting the warm people-to-people, cultural, and diplomatic ties currently flourishing between Pakistan and Spain.
