US House Representatives Meet COAS General Asim Munir at GHQ

RAWALPINDI (special crosspondent) – Mr. Ryan Keith Zinke, Member of the House of Representatives from the State of Montana, and Mr. Michael James, Member of the House of Representatives from the State of Washington, paid a formal visit to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

During the high-level meeting, discussions were primarily focused on matters of mutual interest, the complexities of regional security, and the strengthening of bilateral defense cooperation. The dialogue also explored strategic avenues for enhancing economic collaboration to foster long-term prosperity between the two nations. This meeting comes amidst a broader regional context where, as noted in recent Pakistan Rejects Provocative Remarks Made by Indian Defence Minister, diplomatic engagement remains critical for stability.

Economic Cooperation and Structural Reforms

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan’s vast economic potential during the session. He emphasized that sustainable regional stability is deeply anchored in robust economic growth, the expansion of trade corridors, and enhanced regional connectivity. The Chief of Army Staff underscored that Pakistan is currently implementing significant structural reforms specifically aimed at fostering a more business-friendly environment to effectively attract and retain foreign direct investment.

Commitment to Bilateral Engagement

The visiting dignitaries acknowledged Pakistan’s critical role in maintaining regional stability and its ongoing efforts toward economic resilience. Given the professional backgrounds and policy insights of the US delegation, both sides deliberated on potential opportunities for increased bilateral economic engagement, the establishment of private sector partnerships, and the enhancement of bilateral trade ties. Such diplomatic efforts are essential, paralleling how other global powers navigate complex security architectures, similar to discussions where Saudi Defence Minister Coordinates Security Efforts with Türkiye and South Africa to ensure mutual interests are met.

In concluding the visit, the US congressional delegation expressed their gratitude to the military leadership for the warm hospitality extended during their stay. Both parties articulated a shared commitment to promoting deeper economic, commercial, and institutional linkages between the United States and Pakistan, signifying a forward-looking approach to the bilateral relationship.
