LAHORE (special crosspondent) – Pakistan’s designate High Commissioner to Tanzania, Hasnain Yousaf, held a high-level meeting with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President, Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, to deliberate on strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering economic and trade cooperation between Pakistan and African markets. The session, held in Lahore, was attended by Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed, Vice President Khurram Lodhi, and Executive Committee Member Nadeem Ansari, alongside other key chamber officials.

Strategic Focus on Emerging Markets

During the proceedings, Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol emphasized that, in the face of ongoing economic challenges, Pakistan must proactively identify and penetrate new international markets to bolster export growth. He pointed to Africa’s rapidly evolving economy as a primary destination for Pakistani goods, noting significant untapped potential for auto parts, engineering components, and various industrial outputs. The LCCI leadership continues to advocate for policies that align with broader national goals, similar to recent efforts seen in Pakistan’s recent legislative and judicial updates aimed at improving the ease of doing business.

Diversifying Export Destinations and Manpower

Saigol highlighted the necessity of diversifying beyond traditional trade corridors. Currently, approximately 60 percent of Pakistan’s remittances are derived from Gulf nations; however, the LCCI President underscored that shifting global dynamics make it critical to explore alternative economic zones. In addition to physical goods, he noted the substantial potential for exporting skilled and professional manpower to African nations, which would serve to both mitigate domestic unemployment and bolster national remittance inflows. These discussions are part of a wider effort by various sectors to modernize, akin to how economic stakeholders are exploring modern investment vehicles to sustain long-term growth.

Collaborative Initiatives for Trade Expansion

The LCCI requested that High Commissioner-designate Hasnain Yousaf provide diplomatic support for organizing single-country exhibitions and fostering robust business-to-business linkages. The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to providing local enterprises with the tools necessary to access international platforms. Responding to these initiatives, Hasnain Yousaf acknowledged the pivotal role played by the LCCI in the national economy. He reaffirmed the federal government’s dedication to increasing export volumes and assured the business community of his full assistance in promoting bilateral investment, trade cooperation, and employment opportunities for Pakistani professionals across Tanzania and the broader African continent.
