GENEVA (special crosspondent) – Pakistan-born economist and global policy expert Saadia Zahidi has been appointed as the new Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), marking a historic milestone as the first woman to lead the global airline industry body. According to an official announcement by IATA, the Lahore-born executive is scheduled to assume office on November 1, 2026. She will succeed Willie Walsh, who is set to step down from the position on July 31. During the interim period, IATA Chief Financial Officer Sandrine Le Borgne will serve as the Acting Director General.
