ISLAMABAD (Special Correspondent) – Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, hosted a luncheon in honour of a Dutch business delegation led by the Founders Carbon Network (FCN), accompanied by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Pakistan, H.E. Robert-Jan Siegert. The event was attended by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation, the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, the Secretary of Commerce, and senior officials from the Finance Division.

Welcoming the delegation, the Finance Minister appreciated their interest in Pakistan, emphasizing the necessity of strengthening business-to-business linkages and deepening bilateral economic cooperation. He noted that consistent engagement between the business communities of Pakistan and the Netherlands is vital to identifying commercially viable investment opportunities, fostering partnerships, and bolstering investor confidence. These efforts align with recent high-level discussions, such as those regarding Pakistan, UK explore investment partnership to boost trade and business cooperation, reflecting a broader strategy to diversify international trade ties.

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic outlook and the importance of translating stabilization gains into productive investment and export-led growth. He noted that foreign exchange reserves have reached a historic high of US$21.4 billion, providing over three months of import cover—a milestone reflecting the fiscal discipline often discussed during engagements like the IMF Mission Chief Iva Petrova holds wrap-up meeting with Finance Minister Aurangzeb. The Finance Minister underscored that the next phase of economic development must prioritize structural reforms, digitalization, and a transition from aid dependence toward trade and investment.

Addressing National Challenges

The Minister identified rapid population growth and climate change as existential threats to Pakistan’s long-term sustainability. He urged for coordinated policy responses to mitigate these risks. Meanwhile, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding private-sector participation through public-private partnerships, while the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan emphasized ongoing financial-sector reforms. The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to developing viable partnerships, further building on the momentum of international cooperation seen in visits such as the Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani Visits Pakistan, aimed at fostering a more robust, enabling environment for foreign investors.
