BAGHDAD (special crosspondent) – The government has issued an important advisory for all Pakistani citizens residing in or planning to travel to Iraq for employment, warning of severe penalties for illegal entry into the country.

The Iraqi government has imposed a substantial fine of approximately 3 million Iraqi dinars, equivalent to around $2,000, for foreign nationals found to have entered the country illegally. This penalty applies to individuals who have entered without a valid entry stamp or through unauthorized border crossings, commonly referred to as “donkey” routes.

Under this new regulation, individuals who have entered illegally will be barred from legally departing Iraq until the stipulated fine is paid in full. This situation can lead to severe financial hardship, legal complications, potential detention, and significant travel disruptions for those affected.

Advisory for Pakistani Nationals

In light of these developments, all Pakistani citizens are strongly advised to adhere strictly to legal procedures when travelling to Iraq and to observe the following precautionary measures:

• Avoid Fraudulent Agents: Do not trust agents or individuals who encourage illegal entry, make false promises of employment, or suggest using unauthorized border routes.
• Protect Personal Documents: Refrain from handing over your passport or other personal documents to any unauthorized agent or employer.
• Disseminate Information: It is crucial to share this vital information with relatives, friends, fellow workers, and other Pakistani citizens to protect them from financial penalties, legal action, detention, and other serious difficulties.
