ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held a high-level meeting with Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), in London today. The visit, which aligns with the broader diplomatic objectives of the current administration—similar to recent initiatives such as the DPM/FM Ishaq Dar to visit UK on Monday—focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in maritime governance.

Reaffirming Commitment to Maritime Security

During the meeting, Senator Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to the IMO, acknowledging its vital role as the primary international regulatory body tasked with ensuring safe, secure, and efficient international shipping practices. The Foreign Minister underscored that Pakistan remains dedicated to upholding international maritime standards and actively working to develop its blue economy.

Call for Urgent Action on Captive Seafarers

A primary agenda point during the discussions was the current plight of 10 Pakistani seafarers held captive aboard the MT Honour 25. Senator Dar expressed gratitude to Secretary-General Dominguez for the support provided thus far in addressing this humanitarian concern. He further urged the IMO to take urgent and effective institutional action to facilitate the early and safe return of the captive crew members.

Strengthening Future Cooperation

The two leaders engaged in a comprehensive dialogue regarding the expansion of Pakistan-IMO collaboration.
