Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni Arrives in Pakistan for Talks

ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Islamabad on Monday for an official visit, leading a high-level delegation to hold crucial discussions with Pakistani leadership. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi received his Iranian counterpart at the airport, where Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry also extended a formal welcome. The Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, was also present.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Cooperation
Welcoming the dignitary, Mohsin Naqvi remarked, “I warmly welcome my brother to Pakistan,” expressing optimism that the visit would yield positive outcomes and further solidify the historical ties between the two neighbouring nations. Naqvi emphasized the importance of the dialogue in addressing key regional issues and enhancing bilateral cooperation, mirroring the constructive diplomatic efforts seen in previous high-level engagements, such as when Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand Discusses Security with Mohsin Naqvi. The Iranian delegation includes the Governor General of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, the Deputy Interior Minister, the Deputy Minister for Urban Development and Transport, the Head of the National Iranian Oil Company, and the Special Representative of Iran’s Minister of Agriculture.
High-Level Meetings Scheduled
During his visit, Minister Momeni is scheduled to hold meetings with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. These discussions are expected to cover border management, regional security cooperation, and expanding trade relations, reflecting PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Commitment to Expanding Pakistan-Canada Trade and Investment as a priority for the current administration. Following the arrival, Mohsin Naqvi conducted an initial session with his counterpart, where Eskandar Momeni expressed his delight at the meeting, characterizing the Iran-Pakistan relationship as “exceptional and brotherly.” Momeni further highlighted his appreciation for the hospitality consistently shown by the Pakistani government and its people.
