Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Sign Joint Defence Pact to Strengthen Collective Security

MAKKAH: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have signed the Makkah Joint Defence Pact, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening collective security, expanding defence cooperation and promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.

The agreement was signed in Makkah on Friday by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during a trilateral summit held at Al-Safa Palace.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the summit was convened at the invitation of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. During the meeting, the three leaders reviewed the longstanding brotherly relations among their countries and discussed a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The statement said the pact reflects the shared resolve of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to further strengthen their collective security and work together for peace, stability and prosperity at both the regional and global levels.

Under the agreement, any armed attack against one of the three member states will be regarded as an attack against all three countries, reinforcing their commitment to collective defence.

The pact also provides for enhanced cooperation across all areas of defence, including closer military collaboration and coordination to address emerging security challenges.

Following the signing ceremony, the three leaders exchanged warm greetings and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening strategic cooperation.

Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi were also present on the occasion.
