ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – President Asif Ali Zardari has issued a formal call for the strategic expansion of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia, specifically targeting advancements in law enforcement, counter-terrorism initiatives, narcotics control, and the collaborative effort to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling. The President emphasized these priorities during a high-level meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr with Malaysia’s Minister for Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail.

The meeting, which included the participation of Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Interior & Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, served as a platform to reaffirm the enduring ties between the two nations. The Malaysian delegation was represented by High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, along with Ibrahim Darus, Director of the Special Branch of the Royal Malaysia Police, and Hafidz Othman, Deputy Commissioner General of the Malaysian Prison Department.

President Zardari warmly welcomed the visiting delegation, noting that Pakistan remains deeply committed to its fraternal relationship with Malaysia—a bond anchored in shared religious values, cultural heritage, and robust people-to-people connections. The President expressed appreciation for the ongoing progress in institutional synergy, particularly regarding immigration, internal security, and judicial cooperation. He highlighted that consistent coordination between state institutions is essential for enhancing public service and resolving mutual concerns effectively.

Expanding Bilateral Trade and Connectivity

Beyond security, the dialogue addressed the imperative of bolstering bilateral economic engagement. The President underscored the necessity of securing greater market access in Malaysia for high-demand Pakistani exports, including rice, potatoes, wheat, poultry, and animal feed.
