Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Discusses Regional Stability with President Pezeshkian

ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a formal telephone conversation today with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, to address the mounting regional instability. During the warm and cordial exchange, the Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the recent surge in tensions and underscored the urgent necessity of restoring peace and stability across the region. He called upon both Iran and all relevant regional stakeholders to exercise restraint and refrain from any actions that might jeopardize the fragile peace achieved in recent months.

Commitment to Regional Peace

The Prime Minister emphasized the critical importance of upholding commitments established under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), characterizing the agreement as an enduring framework essential for fostering mutual respect and shared prosperity. In a similar vein of diplomatic engagement, Saudi Ambassador Meets Pakistan Deputy PM to Discuss Regional Peace, reflecting the ongoing broader efforts to manage regional security. Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to these regional goals and assured President Pezeshkian of the country’s readiness to serve as a sincere mediator in facilitating dialogue.

Bilateral Cooperation and Future Relations

President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir for their participation in the recent funeral proceedings. The Iranian President also reiterated his government’s dedication to regional harmony, praising Pakistan’s constructive contributions toward stability. Furthermore, both leaders reviewed the implementation of initiatives agreed upon during the President’s visit to Islamabad last month, vowing to expedite follow-up actions to strengthen bilateral ties. This cooperation mirrors other high-level diplomatic efforts, such as the Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan to Boost Cooperation in Key Sectors initiative, aimed at deepening strategic partnerships.

Diplomatic Engagement

The Prime Minister conveyed his respectful regards and best wishes to His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei. Concluding the dialogue, the two leaders agreed to maintain close communication to address matters of mutual interest and ongoing regional security challenges, similar to efforts seen in other strategic forums where DPM Ishaq Dar Oversees Final Preparations for OIC Women Conference to enhance regional integration.
