ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – A group of 33 scholars from across Pakistan is set to depart for the United Kingdom to pursue fully funded education through the prestigious Chevening and Commonwealth scholarship programmes. These individuals, selected for their academic excellence, leadership potential, and dedication to societal progress, will enroll in various master’s and postgraduate courses at leading British universities.

Empowering Future Pakistani Leaders

The cohort aims to acquire expertise and expand professional networks in sectors critical to Pakistan’s development, including governance, public health, climate action, and education. The British High Commission in Islamabad recently hosted a pre-departure reception to honour the scholars, providing them with insights into the UK study experience and facilitating connections with the established UK-Pakistan scholarship community.

Diverse Academic Pursuits

This year’s recipients represent a broad spectrum of professional and social backgrounds, with a notable emphasis on gender inclusivity. These scholars will be stationed in cities including London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Sheffield, and Bristol. Their fields of study are diverse, ranging from diplomacy and human rights to biological robotics and development economics, reflecting the multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.

Building Lasting Partnerships

British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, underscored the significance of these programmes, stating, “Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships are one of the clearest examples of the UK-Pakistan partnership in action. They invest in people with the talent, ambition and purpose to make a difference.” Upon completion of their studies, the scholars will return to contribute to Pakistan’s future, joining a network of over 3,500 established alumni who are actively working in sectors like education, health, and business. The British High Commission continues to actively pursue partnerships with local stakeholders to expand these opportunities, similar to past initiatives focused on agricultural and business innovation. Applications for the next intake of researchers and entrepreneurs are now officially open.
