US Congressional Delegation Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Ties With PM Sharif

ISLAMABAD (special crosspondent) – A high-level U.S. Congressional delegation, comprising Rep. Ryan Zinke and Rep. Michael Baumgartener, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House this afternoon to discuss the future of bilateral relations. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch, and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Natalie Baker.

Strengthening Pakistan-U.S. Relations

During the formal proceedings, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a warm welcome to the U.S. Congressmen, characterizing their visit as a significant milestone in fortifying the historical ties between Pakistan and the United States. In addition to extending congratulations on the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence, the Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to President Donald Trump.

The Prime Minister specifically lauded President Trump’s pivotal and decisive intervention, which facilitated a ceasefire between Pakistan and India in May 2025, ultimately preserving millions of lives in the region. Regarding bilateral cooperation, the Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s keen interest in expanding partnerships in key sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, IT, mining, and energy.

Regional Peace and Parliamentary Engagement

The visiting Congressmen thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality, noting that the positive rapport between President Trump and the Pakistani leadership continues to bolster bilateral cooperation. The delegation further commended Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability and peace efforts. Both sides reached a consensus to enhance the frequency of mutual visits between Congressional and parliamentary delegations to foster deeper understanding and cooperation.

Engagement with U.S. Corporate Executives

Following the diplomatic meeting, the Prime Minister hosted a reception for a visiting delegation of U.S. corporate executives representing diverse industries such as technology, energy, mining, and manufacturing. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to a robust partnership with the U.S., emphasizing that economic cooperation serves as a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship. He invited American enterprises to capitalize on investment opportunities in Pakistan, highlighting the significant role of the Pakistani American diaspora in bridging economic interests between the two nations. The reception was attended by key cabinet members and senior government officials.
